Jo Urquhart

I nominate Jo Urquhart for the Award of Merit for having demonstrated outstanding dedication and contributions to the Regina Lawn Bowling Club as described below.

Jo has been a member of the executive of the Board of Directors since 2005. She held the role of Secretary for four years from 2005 through 2008 and then either as 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President, President or Past President from 2009 onward.

While a member of the executive during these years, she also was a Director of various areas including Publicity, Handbook, Membership and Catering. In 2013 she served as the 2nd Vice-President and was the Director of Catering and for the Handbook.

Jo’s efforts in the Publicity area in the past have resulted in many new ideas to bring new members to the club. She has documented the results of the ideas and knows where the efforts are most effective.

Over the years in her role as the Director for the Handbook, Jo has taken the initiative to find advertisers for the handbook which now pays for the production of the handbook. She has also been instrumental in improving the content and format and adding the colored covers to it. Her efforts have kept our handbook very informative to our members.

Her efforts in the Catering area over the years have been appreciated. Jo has served many good meals at the various club events and her roast beef meal at the 2013 Windup was one of the best meals we have had at the club in a while.

She also has been the key person in providing a bar service at various club events in the past and this is certainly appreciated, especially on the hot days.

Jo is a certified coach and always helps at our Open House each spring. She also helps out at the “learn to bowl” sessions and helps coach lots of school groups and adult groups who come to the RLBC.

Jo is routinely there on work days to lend a hand on helping clean up the grounds or club house. She enthusiastically volunteers her time to help maintain the appearance of the club and grounds.

Jo is always coming up with ideas to improve the club and is willing to initiate these ideas. She is willing to volunteer her time to look for various options, present the options to the board and then do the work to purchase the required items and/or implement the chosen option. Thanks, Jo for your efforts to keep the club house looking refreshed and improving the functionality of the club.

Jo also volunteers to do any number of other tasks around the club that need to be done. This includes housekeeping duties, doing the draw and greens setup etc. Jo is a member we can count on to volunteer her time for the club.

Jo has also often provided assistance to me when I need a helper to help me with planting the flowers in the spring. This help is appreciated.

For all the above reasons, I believe Jo is a worthy and deserving candidate for the Award of Merit. She does so many things for the club, many of them without being asked, and deserves to be recognized for her efforts.
