Award of Merit Recipients for 2009

Jean Temple -nominated by the Regina Lawn Bowling Club
Beyrl Lane – nominated by the Nutana Lawn Bowling Club
Don Waters – nominated by the Mayfair Lawn Bowling Club

Starting in 2009 and continuing to the present, the policy was changed to a maximum of 3 winners with the winners receiving a jacket.

Jean Temple

Jean Temple has been a member of the Regina Lawn Bowling Club for twelve years.

Jean has managed the Friday night Jitney activities for our club on a full time basis since 2003. Prior to that, she always filled in when the assigned volunteer was not there. She has been there every Friday night to collect the dues, set up the draw, tally the scores and announce the winners. She ensures that everyone has a good time.

She is extremely reliable, a hard worker with a positive attitude, well-organized and willing to help – one of those members whom we can count on to be there and sometimes take for granted. She also recruits and schedules the volunteers who provide the lunch for each Jitney night.

Equally important, she takes care of the blind bowler who frequently attends the Jitneys. She gives up her playing time with the regular bowlers. Instead, she and Bill, her husband, always take the blind bowler onto the greens and assist him during the game. She takes care of him from the time he arrives at the club house, plays on the greens and then ensures that lunch is provided for him.

Jean is always willing to step in and help when called upon. On many occasions, she makes herself available on short notice to fill in when a spare is required for the club tournaments. She also volunteers for the weekly draw set up and commits to the one week schedule for housekeeping. She also assists with catering when called upon.

In the past, she has served as secretary for the Regina Lawn Bowling Club. She was the Catering Coordinator for two years and also served as a catering assistant for two years.

Jean is a valuable member of the club and deserves to be recognized for the Award of Merit for 2009.
